Personal testimony: How de Bono Thinking changed my life for the better

"I had joined a religious sect in 1969 which I wasn't happy about. There were all sorts of restrictions including a kind of emotional thought control. Upon reading The Mechanism of Mind in the early seventies I started to feel liberated. This was because I began to understand how the mind works. And I knew that the sect, the Unification Church, did not understand that and did not want to understand it. The momentum in the sect was driven by a necessity to only believe the interpretation given.

"Then I read Dr de Bono's book The Happiness Purpose, which immediately gelled with me as a very sensible view of life. Over the years reading more and more of the de Bono books I became interested in teaching thinking. In the mid eighties I enrolled in a de Bono thinking course run by Wolsey Hall of Oxford England. This was a correspondence course.

"In the Unification Church now known as the FFWPU, guilt is bestowed on members by taking the Adam/Eve/Lucifer story and using it as a cause for the beginning of evil. Evil is defined as the original sexual seduction that takes humankind away from God. Since I had also read some of Freud, I knew that many of Freud's patients involved hysteria, and he succeeded in freeing the mind from guilt especially sexual hangups."

Religion is fine for those whom it helps, but more thinking can be achieved in five minutes than in five hours of prayer.

People, who might be described as NOPO people and enjoy the exclusive use of argument and criticism, won't like the use of new thinking. New thinking includes PO. PO, provocative operation, is a serious revolutionary concept that opens the mind to fresh thinking and new ideas! PO is for explorers. Welcome to PO Thinking!
